Chapter 10- Time Management

This section trains you on maximizing your success, it shows you how to use time management skills. They belong to the most important personal management skills you can learn.

It is the end of the day and you didn't manage to accomplish all the things you wanted to do on your list? Slowly this feeling of un-productivity makes us feel frustrated. Time management is not a new invention, it has existed for the past hundred years, and actually it is a big part of self-management.

Would you not rather prefer to say, "I'm very organised" and "I know where I am going and what I'm going to do". Of course you would, I mean who wouldn’t? Time management effects the whole company and the way it is run, from the bottom to the top. If for instance you as a manager have an employee with a pay issue (perhaps they have not been paid correctly) and when asked if it is resolved you still have not looked at it, the more and more you delay this the worse it will become for you. Imagine how unhappy and angry that employee is now because of you, he/she may tell others creating a bad rapport amongst staff about you, causing a domino affect in staff trusting their manager.

This is just one example of how you can create a huge problem just due to poor time management. You may have a valid excuse this time but then what about the next time, then the next and so on. Here are a few positives things which can only come from good time management; gaining more time, reducing avoidance, eliminating cramming, reducing anxiety and so on.

I would like to present you a few important factors which may improve your time management. It is from a big list of points that are reasonable reasons of where your time is disappearing and hopefully then you can learn to manage time in order to run your company better.

-Try to cut down interruptions like phone calls and drop in visitor’s

-Do not spend a lot of time sitting in meetings

-Desk management and personal organisation

-Don't let papers grow to a pile on your desk; a clear desk helps you be more efficient

-Make a plan, set priorities and ensure clear communication

-If you think that another person can achieve the same results as you then it is time to delegate the job

-Create a to-do list, a weekly and long-term planner

Well you have all the guidelines you need to become a great manager, so there is nothing stopping you guys. If it is your life-long dream then what are you waiting for? And if it is something that interests you then do not let anything stop you, whatever career you choose if you work hard at it then you will be great at it!!
