Chapter 09- Training Your Employees

Whenever companies have problems, the first thing they tend to do is to cut down training, such as language training, intercultural training and or sales training. However this is one of the most dangerous things an employer can do.

Improving productivity and skills is one of the most effective steps a firm has to take. A common excuse is that there is no time for training and, of course, no money. The key is that training does not have to cost a lot of money to be good. Use your own staff to train those around you, use self-study manuals, videos or the computer! Don't forget that continuous training makes effective training. Think about learning languages for example this is using the same technique. All new employees need training, other than that it’s when you are introducing a new change, perhaps a product or systematic change or when you notice a weakness within a current employee.

The results you will get from this will be more happy, confident and productive employees! Effective training makes a person feel part of the team sooner. Often we think that a higher salary makes people happy and to stay with a company, a fact we can't deny, but surveys recently showed that 80% of the people that were asked find better training even more important in order to stay with a company. So read these short things to keep in mind when you are developing training: Analyse each job to determine the best way to train. Be sure to create tools that will assist the learner and determine a cheap way to test the effectiveness of your training method.

We all know the benefits effective training brings, and still, there is one more reason apart from the excuse that there is neither time or money to train employees which stops companies investing in this major source; The wide spread fear that once well trained the worker will be more attracted to the competition. Today's turnover rate is higher than it has ever been, but why should a happy worker change to the competitor? Invest in training, talk to your employees to keep them with you and to increase productivity and lower costs for your business! Training results are not always obvious from the first day on, but satisfaction among your workers is!

E-training models have entered many companies. This is not very surprising, since it is more cost-efficient, more focused and more flexible than classroom trainings. You only have to think about savings like lodging, food and travel costs when learning is accessible from home or the workplace. E-training allows continuity. Classroom training often takes place in a block, whereas E-training can be integrated in the regular working plan. E-classes are free from time schedules, can be recorded, repeated and therefore being used easily to help refresh. To cut down costs, companies in related markets can also offer training to employees together and share the costs. Sometimes the government helps companies invest in training- get informed about it!

Now you have the right idea as to how to train your staff thanks to our guidelines you are ready for your last most important learning curves which is ‘Time Management’. Enjoy!!
