Get yourself invited to social or business functions where you can meet business people in your field. You want to exchange information and business experience and find out if there is anyone who you can network with which can be useful for your business. Be careful though you are not selling your product, you are exchanging ideas.


Networking is important and can prove a great tool as to what directions your company can go in the future. The key to true business networking is the establishment of a relationship, which we will discuss in this chapter. You can try to hold a cooperate event yourself or get invited to one through networking, where you can spread the message of your company and services and what you have to offer. The exchange of business cards maybe appropriate if you are networking with a person from another country who speaks a different language as sometimes it can be difficult to remember unfamiliar names. Follow up the contacts that you think are beneficial. Send an email expressing a desire to keep in contact and request more information from their business whilst at the same time informing your contact of the business advantages your company could offer.


One of the most important skills when networking is listening; focusing on how you can help a person is a great way to establish a mutual relationship. Once this is done you can perhaps start with any collaborations or help you may need to cater your business. You may find that by initially offering your help you are more likely to build a relationship with that person which can be kept alive for as long as you may decide, as long as it is beneficial to you and you are beneficial to them there will be no problem.
